Unipin Ladies Series recently crowned Bigetron as their champion, but not without a little drama. This time though, it was not about the players or the organiser, but the team management.
To be exact, Bigetron’s Thomas “btr_xve” Vetra. It started when all of EVOS Lynx players played from their own gaming house – but Unipin Ladies Series required all teams participating to play at their offline stage. Before each match, every team present at the offline stage must follow health protocols.
However, one of EVOS Lynx’s players turned out to have close contact with someone who tested positive COVID-19, so EVOS and Unipin had an agreement that EVOS Lynx would be allowed to play and continue the match from the gaming house. This was to ensure all health protocol was followed and to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Not long after, Thomas tweeted:
This translates to: “Cringe to see GH meta. Respect to teams whose players tested positive but continued to play on stage.”
Seeing this tweet, apparently Thomas disagreed with the decision of EVOS playing in their gaming house and he expects a team that has one member tested positive COVID-19 to still play at the offline stage. This created a huge uproar in the Indonesian esports scene. Health protocols state that if there is anyone in close contact with someone who tested positive COVID-19, they must be quarantined for a few days. This means EVOS Lynx’s players were unable to play on stage.
This tweet resulted in esports netizens bombarding Thomas’ social media with harsh comments and in the end, Thomas tweeted an announcement about him leaving Bigetron as Head of Esports in Bigetron Esports.
This translates to: “Good evening. About my last tweet, I personally apologize to whoever felt offended and also to the EO of Unipin Ladies Series that were indirectly impacted by my mistake.
There was no intention to joke about COVID-19 and the health protocol that was strictly implemented for all including Bigetron.
Truly apologize for the wrong I made, and as my responsibility, I hereby declare resignation as Head of esports of Bigetron esports
Thank you and hopefully, my apology can be accepted, I will talk more carefully next time.”
Bigetron Esports did not take long before announcing Patrick as his replacement. We wish Patrick the best of luck in his new role in Bigetron.
