Wild Rift’s SEA Championship 2021 is already brewing up a blast

Riot Games SEA announced the arrival of the inaugural Wild Rift SEA Championship (SEAC). ESL Asia will be working closely with Riot Games to present the best quality production for the regional tournament.

While little else has been announced apart from its dates and stages, considering its tight timeline, one can speculate that it will be an Online tournament spanning from 14 Sep to 3 Oct.

As of last weekend, a few teams have already qualified for SEAC. These teams include:

EVOS TH – Thailand (Seeded as the Summer Super Cup Champion)
Saigon Phantom – Vietnam’s #3 Seed
Alliance – Singapore’s #1 Seed
Banana – Singapore’s #2 Seed
Team Flash – Vietnam’s #4 Seed (In the event EVOS TH finish within Top 3 in their Fall Season, this seed will be given to Team Flash)

Singapore’s Alliance beat Banana handedly in a 3-1 score to qualify into the SEAC Group Stage while Banana will be seeded into the Play-Ins. While they are Champions, Alliance will need to work on their A-game if they wish to go far in SEAC as their current record in Fall is far from the unblemished performance in Summer.

The coming weekend will be even more jam-packed with Wild Rift excitement as Thailand, Malaysia and Hong Kong finish up their playoffs to determine their seeded teams as well.

All eyes will be on EVOS TH (EVOS) and Buriram United Esports (BRU) as BRU were the only team to take a match off EVOS in the Group Stage. Perhaps this is a signifier of a shift in the winds of fate.

Meanwhile the loss of Ozoraveki seems to have affected Geek Fam so much that they barely qualified into the Playoff stages. With Malaysia’s abysmal performances during the Summer Super Cup, perhaps it is time for some new blood to take over the old guard.

If Thomas “TJ” James’ words are anything to go by, this might very well be a world-class tournament in the making.

The SEAC commences 14 Sep 2021.
