Global Esports Games 2021: Here’s who you need to look out for

The Global Esports Games (GEG) will feature over 100 players from the esports world, comprising both newcomers and seasoned professionals.

Names like Bruce “GamerBee” Hsiang, Thiago de Oliveira “Thiolicor” Cordeiro and Yuri “Yuri_FPOLIS” Felicio de Andrade are among the who’s who in their respective games.

The trio are the ones to watch at GEG — so let’s have a look at the how’s and why’s they’ve become such big players in the esports scene.

Hailing from Taiwan, 42-year-old GamerBee is a Street Fighter player who rose to fame after the conclusion of EVO 2010, a Street Fighter 4 tournament where he placed 5th using the character Adon to compete.

Since then, GamerBee has gone on to compete in multiple tournaments, such as the EVO 2021 and the Intel World Open – East Asia Regional Finals, where he placed 4th with characters Cammy and Seth after rising the ranks in his regional qualifiers.

If you’re a Street Fighter fan, no matter which version of the game, we’re sure you’ll get a kick out of GamerBee’s performance in the upcoming Global Esports Games 2021.

Moving out of East Asia and into South America is where you’ll find 22-year-old Brazilian Dota 2 player Thiolicor. The NoPing e-sports player was previously signed to SG e-sports, where the team players rose to prominence after qualifying for The International 2021 (TI).

To be only 22-years-old and competing in major tournaments like TI is a pretty big deal. You can expect Thiolicor and other players from the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) to put up a good fight in the GEG21 this coming week!

Last but definitely not least is Yuri_FPOLIS, a 21-year-old eFootball player. Originally from Brazil, Yuri_FPOLIS is now a naturalised American and will be taking part in the GEG this year. He will be representing the US as a player from Team #worldconnected, which strives to create a diverse and welcoming esports community. Shockingly — or not — this rising star excels in the physical world of football too. Yuri_FPOLIS is also a semi-pro footballer who plays for the Florida Soccer Soldiers. Perhaps that’s why he’s so good at virtual football (/hj).
