Honkai: Star Rail Makes It Mark on the Esports Scene

A professional team competing at the VALORANT Challengers 2023: Hong Kong & Taiwan Split 2 had a very bizarre reason for their forfeit on 2 May 2023 – Honkai: Star Rail.

Not even a week ago, we published a story calling the latest installation of the Honkai series a hit game. Well, it has really made its mark on not just the gaming community as a whole, but on the esports scene as well.

Ghost CommandoS was forced to back out of their match against S2 Esports when one of their players failed to install the official VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT) game client. Why? He was too busy grinding on HoYoverse’s new game.

The reactions on Reddit say it all.

Is Honkai: Star Rail overtaking VALORANT in popularity? Whatever the case, the addictive game is the cause of Ghost CommandoS missing their match. They then went on to lose their subsequent match and missed out on a spot in the playoffs.

S2 Esports – the team they forfeited against – however, went on to secure a spot for themselves.

What a way to lose out. Honkai: Star Rail is really taking the world – including professional gamers – by storm.
