Next-Gen Nintendo Switch Reported Release in 2024

Nintendo Switch fans! It might be time to start thinking about an upgrade because it is beginning to look like the console’s successor will be launched in late-2024.

According to VGC, the reason for the later date is so as to ensure ample stock to avoid the shortages that plagued their competitors – the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S – during their respective releases.

It was also said that the new console will be like its predecessor in that it will be a portable device. It differs, however, in that it will have a liquid crystal display (LCD) screen and not the premium organic light-emitting diode (OLED) one. This is to lower the cost while still being able to increase the storage – the biggest complaint of the Nintendo Switch, since it only has a 32GB internal memory.

Whether or not the new device would have backwards compatibility is still up in the air. Nintendo does not have a great reputation with preserving its own games when new consoles drop. The Switch is evidence of that since it does not have backwards compatibility. But what they do end up choosing in terms of this feature might greatly impact the success of the future console.

With some key studio partners reportedly already receiving development kits for the next-gen Nintendo Switch, more details and rumours are expected to hit the internet soon. But for now – and before we get ahead of ourselves – we can only wait for the official announcement from the video game company.

Whenever it drops though – whether it be late-2024 or later – will you be getting your hands on the new device? Or do you think the original Nintendo Switch is good enough without an upgrade?
