Evos Legends Announces New 2023 Lineup: Is It Time for Zeys to Start Anew?

Zeys no more.

The recent news about Bjorn “Zeys” Ong’s omission from the Evos Legends roster for the forthcoming competitive season came as a shock following his statement during his visit to the fourth Mobile Legends: Bang Bang World Championship (M4) tournament in Jakarta a few weeks ago.

On Sunday, Evos Esports officially unveiled their roster of players and coaches for the MPL Indonesia Season 11 competition. Rizqi “Saykots” Iskandar and Ferdyansyah “Ferxiic” Kamaruddin, two surprise standouts from the last MLBB Development League (MDL) Indonesia season, will start as regulars for Evos Legends.

However, this initially joyful surprise was quickly turned into disappointment when Evos fans then discovered that Stenley “TaxStump” Hermawan had replaced Zeys as coach.

The announcement reignited the rumours that had been circulating during the M4 competition, which Zeys hinted that he is willing to work with other MPL teams.

In response, Mohammad “Oner” Fakhreno, head of esports of Evos, promised that further information on Zeys would be made available by next week. Several leaks, however, pointed that Zeys is preparing himself as the coach of the Indonesian MLBB national team for the upcoming 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia.

According to a snapshot from one of the Indonesian Esports Federation (PBESI) officials named Frengky Ong, Zeys is one of the candidates on the shortlist for the Indonesian national team’s MLBB coaches.

Coincidentally, the announcement of the Indonesia MLBB national team coach candidates is expected to be announced in the next week as well.

Many fans assumed that Zeys was left out of Evos Legends since it is against the rules for an MPL team coach to also serve as national team coach. However, considering Bren Esports’ coach, Francis “Ducky” Glindro, also serves as the head coach of the Philippines MLBB national team, there is a big possibility that Zeys is planning to end his ties with Evos soon.

His recent Instagram ‘farewell’ to his “second family” only served to solidify this assumption. And of course no one understands his words better than the Evos Fams.

Should Zeys decide to leave Evos for good, TaxStump will definitely have a lot on his plate. We all know what Zeys’ have achieved in the past four years:  he was the architect behind Evos Legends and Evos SG successful runs in the MPL Indonesia and Singapore. In addition, he is, so far, the only coach who knows how to deal with Filipinos superiority when it comes to MLBB.
