After a thrilling regular season, the eagerly-anticipated final playoffs from May 7 to 9 are almost upon us. Eight teams have entered the final battlegrounds of the inaugural MPL Singapore Season 1, but only 3 can advance to the final day of playoffs before 1 will emerge champion.

As the excitement builds up, let’s take a look at 2 of the most surprising teams and 4 teams who will need all the help they can get to overcome the odds.

Kingsmen

They may be the new kids on the block, but fans are already looking at Kingsmen to dethrone the traditional royalty of Singapore esports – RSG SG and EVOS SG.  Can the current table toppers maintain this momentum and bring chaos into the finals? Well, time will tell if they might indeed be successful in becoming the new kings of Singapore’s MLBB scene.

Notorious Villains

After a painstaking battle, working their way from the bottom through the qualifiers, the team have made their mark and earned their spot at the top of the table. The playoffs might well be the perfect opportunity for them to rise from the depths of obscurity and prove that they belong with the big boys.

RSG SG

The veteran’s fall from grace into the lower bracket might have upset the RSG fanbase, with many quick to take pot shots at the team. And the pressure is now on for RSG SG to redeem themselves and live up to their reputation. But it will be a long climb to the top, as they will have to first battle their way through the second bracket before they can even have a whiff of the grand finals.

Impunity SG

The team have a long road ahead of them as they climb the ranks from 6th spot in the regular season standings. Once the Singapore champions of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Southeast Asia Cup (MSC) in 2017, it will be a tall order for Impunity SG to taste similar success in MPL SG.

Explorer

Currently ranked 7th in the leaderboard, our thoughts are with Explorer as the new team makes its debut this season. Even with solid backing from the Singapore’s Cybersports and Online Gaming Association Esports Academy, it will take nothing short of god-like performances for them to make it to the top.

Forsaken

After barely making it through the qualifiers, some may say that simply by making the regular season is an accomplishment for the newbies. They have not won a single match in the regular season so they definitely need all our prayers to get at least one W on the board.

EVOS SG

Business appears to be as usual, but the former MPL MY/SG Season 6 runner-up had to share the number one spot with an unlikely rival at the end of the regular season – Kingsmen. Otherwise, they continue to live up to expectations as the top dogs of the league, with many pundits expecting EVOS SG to make it to the grand finals on May 9.

ALMGHTY

Currently sandwiched in the middle of the leaderboard, the rookie team, from Divinity Esports, have been consistent in their performance. They may not have thrown out any new surprises in the standings as of yet, but who knows, they might just reign almighty and rule over the MPL SG kingdom.

Which team will take away the coveted title of the first-ever MPL SG champion and the lion’s share of the S$100,000 prize pool? Keep your eyes peeled for the full action over the next three days. Mark the dates and witness the action live on MPL SG’s Facebook page.
