Onic Esports Seizes Historic Three-peat at MPL ID Season 12

A big milestone was achieved as Onic Esports reached their goal of becoming the inaugural team to clinch a threepeat in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Pro League Indonesia. The Sky Kings triumphed over the formidable underdog, Geek Fam, who had showcased an impressive performance throughout the MPL ID Season 12 playoffs.

In an intense face-off at Mahaka Square, Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, the reigning champions of Indonesia clashed with the spirited Geek Fam during the Grand Finals of MPL ID S12. Both sides, bolstered by talents from the Philippines, displayed impressive mechanics and captivating gameplay. Despite Onic’s eventual triumph, Geek Fam exhibited a commendable fighting spirit, refusing to go down without a fight.

Onic’s dominance in the initial two games stemmed from their adept blend of solid defense and relentless offense. While Geek Fam attempted to outmaneuver them, the vigilance of Onic’s MVP, Nicky “Kiboy” Fernando, remained unyielding. Not relying on his typical assassin’s tactics, Kairi “Kairi” Rayosdelsol played a pivotal role alongside Gilang “Sanz” in creating chaos on the battlefield, with Kiboy shielding his comrades from assaults.

GF nearly seized an opportunity in the third game, with Kiboy once again displaying his brilliance with Mathilda, consistently providing crucial support during several intense moments. Leading the team to their third victory in just over 21 minutes, he maintained an impressive 95% kill participation rate.

Despite trailing by three points, Geek Fam capitalized on uncharacteristic errors from Onic in the subsequent two games, resulting in a thrilling 3-2 showdown. GF’s Valent “Aboy” Putra turned the tables with his Faramis in the fourth game, while this season’s standout player, Allen “Baloyskie” Baloy, motivated his team to shift into a defense-oriented strategy, orchestrating one of the most dramatic comebacks in the history of MPL ID grand finals.

However, their Cinderella moment came to an end as Onic raised their intensity, consistently cornering their opponents in challenging team fights. The Yellow Porcupines army eventually seized control of the game, swiftly securing objectives to culminate their historic championship run with a 16-minute victory.

This triumph marked their fifth MPL ID trophy overall and a historic feat as the first team to accomplish a threepeat in an MPL region, and surpassing Team RRQ with the most MPL ID titles. Additionally, they claimed the lion’s share of the US$336,500 prize pool and secured a spot in the fifth edition of MLBB World in the Philippines, alongside GF.
