Underdog Voin Esports Takes the Lead in PUBG Mobile Super League SEA Week 1

The party has just begun.

The first week of the 2023 PUBG Mobile Super League SEA (PMSL SEA) has seen an unexpected showing from one of the underdog teams, Voin Esports. Hailing from the PMPL ID Spring 2023 league, Voin has shocked their opponents from the SEA region by taking the top spot with an impressive 203 points from day one to day four.

Voin Esports was formed in 2019 and is participating in the SEA championship for the first time. Despite having no elite player or coach, Indonesian pundits expected the team’s reshuffling around youthful, title-hungry players to make them a force to be reckoned with. Their impressive performance in PMPL ID Spring 2023 validated these predictions, securing them the runner-up position and a place in their first PMSL SEA tournament.

With a few days left before their departure to Malaysia for PMSL SEA, Voin Esports decided to take it further and replace their old coach with former Team Secret and Bigetron superstar from Malaysia, Muhammad “Jangs” Farhan Abdul Gafar. Under his guidance and the mechanical prowess of Muhammad “Lapar” Ardiansyah, Voin has managed to strike the ideal balance between offense and defense, maintaining their consistency and unfazed against big challenges.

Their efforts have paid off, as they seized a WWCD on the first day in Miramar, eliminating top-tier SEA teams like Bigetron, D Xavier, and one of SEA’s favorites, Vampire Esports. At the end of week 1, Voin finished as runner-up with a total of 203 points, 134 eliminations, and 1 WWCD. Their rusher, Juvanda “Alva” Fahrezi, lead in individual eliminations with 24 solo kills.

Steady under the pressure

Remarkably, Voin was the first team to collect more than 200 points in just four matchdays. They are only 13 points behind the leader, Vampire Esports, who played additional games on Sunday and might reclaim the top spot in week 2. Meanwhile, two of Voin’s biggest compatriots from Indonesia, Boom Esports and Persijavos, are struggling to find their form in week 1, with Boom Esports in 15th place with a total of 114 points and Persijavos just one point ahead of them in 14th place with 115 points.

As the competition heats up, Voin Esports has emerged as a formidable team to watch out for. Their unexpected success has shown that in the world of esports, anything can happen, and underdogs can always surprise us.
