Abstract Hits the Jackpot in MPL Singapore Season 5

A happy end of season.

During the grand finals of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Pro League Singapore (MPL SG) Season 5, veteran caster Eugene “Abstract” Eu won not only the title of Best Caster of MPL SG S5 but also the heart of his girlfriend Peng Ranxuan.

The main man, dressed in a tan suit, went on stage, bent his knee, opened his ring box in front of his shocked girlfriend and declared the words every girlfriend (or at least most) wants to hear. Ranxuan, who was holding a giant bouquet of flowers, burst into tears and did a little skip before accepting.

The proposal was done in full view of a crowded mall in Singapore, including an elected official Eric Chua, who captured the moment on his phone. Witnesses were in full attendance, so there’s no backing out now.

Not that he wants to. Talking to Ulti Asia, Abstract shared the inspiration behind his decision to propose during the event.

“About that proposal, she has been joking around saying she wants me to propose to her in Free Fire World Series or the MLBB M series. So I thought that my relationship with Zenway Production could help me well in this project. The people close to me are all in the esports industry, so it would only make sense for my proposal to involve esports as well.”

However, he was mindful not to detract from the competition itself: “Proposing in MPL was a great opportunity, but I wouldn’t want to digress the tournament so much and make it so much about us. I don’t want to steal the spotlight from the rightful winners. So before the grand finals was my best bet!”

Next stop: MSC 2023

Abstract also shared his excitement about his upcoming role as one of the official casters for the MLBB Southeast Asia Cup 2023 in Cambodia, and working with other casters from the region. He stated, “Finally getting the best caster title which brings me to MSC 2023 hits differently as compared to when I got it in Season 2. Absolutely stoked to work with the other region’s casters after waiting for a long time!”

Reflecting on his journey in the esports industry, Abstract said, “It’s been a wild ride I gotta say,” and expressed his gratitude for the opportunities he has been given. “I am so happy and grateful for all the opportunities that have come my way. It’s amazing how much the esports industry has grown, and I’m just so glad to be a part of it.”
