In an unexpected turn of events, RRQ’s Mobile Legends: Bang Bang team have announced the exit of their roamer, captain and long-serving player, Calvin “Vyn”.
In the 29-minute video, Vyn says that he is honored to play for the RRQ team and winning the the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Pro League Indonesia competitions in the past years. However, he admits that he felt stuck with the team and wished to explore new opportunities elsewhere. After discussing his issues with RRQ management, they mutually agreed to part ways.
“The journey with RRQ was fun, there’s nothing which I regret. But there were things we couldn’t achieve,” said Vyn. “My reason for leaving RRQ is that I felt stuck. I think I’m at the same level over and over. I need a new environment. We’ve been talking with the management and they’re supportive of my decision. I think this is the best decision for me and the team.”
The decision came as a shock, considering he has led the RRQ team to huge success in MPL ID and showed up as one of the best in M-series since his debut in Season 4. Vyn, though, said he wasn’t satisfied with the wins he had so far.
The first half of 2023 season ended on a bitter note for Vyn. RRQ was unable to achieve its goal of winning MPL ID Season 11 and qualifying for MSC 2023 after unexpectedly losing to Evos in the lower bracket semi-finals. In addition, for the first time in his international career, he was benched by Indonesian national MLBB team’s head coach Bjorn “Zeys” Ong for the 2023 SEA Games MLBB.
Next stop: Onic Esports?
Vyn has not yet disclosed his intentions for MPL ID Season 12, which is scheduled to begin after July. However, the news of Vyn’s departure from RRQ immediately prompted rumours among the major MPL ID teams that had been eyeing him, including Onic Esports.
Former RRQ head coach Adi “Acil” Asyauri, who is now a part of the Onic Esports team, claimed some time ago that a big transfer that could potentially shake up the MPL ID Season 12 is happening. Shortly after Vyn’s farewell video was uploaded, he responded with a cryptic Instagram story mentioning Vyn.
Additionally, Onic player Nicky “Kiboy” Fernanda followed suit today by posting an Instagram story dedicated to Vyn. Interestingly, Kiboy, who plays as roamer in Onic, has suggested that Vyn could be his next ‘rival’, implying that Onic will have two players competing for the same role. Onic Esports, however, isn’t the only team interested in Vyn for MPL ID S12. Veteran teams such as Alter Ego and Geek Slate are reportedly looking for a top talent to win the Season 12.
