In a historic move within Southeast Asian Mobile Legends: Bang Bang professional competition, Moonton has announced the inclusion of two all-female teams from the Woman Star League (WSL) in the MLBB Development League Indonesia (MDL ID), traditionally dominated by male teams.

During a press conference event at Jade Palace, East Jakarta, Indonesia, held today, Moonton revealed that two teams from the upcoming WSL tournament will have the opportunity to participate in MDL Season 10 which will most likely start in September/October.

The selected teams will be drawn from WSL Season 8 (first place) and WSL Invitational 2024 (top-ranked Indonesian team on the leaderboard). In the event that the WSL S8 winner also clinches victory in the WSL Invitational 2024, the slot will be handed to the second-highest ranked Indonesian team.

Regarding this new plan, Moonton Indonesia PR Manager Azwin Nugraha said that this was done because it is in line with the MDL competition mission which carries the tagline “esports for everyone”, and also emphasizes Moonton’s commitment to supporting inclusivity in its competitive scene.

“MLBB Esports tournaments like MDL, MPL, MSC, M-series, etc., are not exclusive to men. From the start, MLBB Esports champions inclusivity, extending opportunities to all individuals, including those with special needs. This inclusivity transcends gender equality, offering a platform for diverse audiences to engage and compete,” remarked Nugraha.

Meanwhile, WSL Head of Event Kresna Aurora welcomed this plan positively as a solution that will provide opportunities for female players in the MLBB competition scene to hone their skills and competitive mentality. He added that the entry of two WSL teams into MDL ID “will be a moment to show that female players can compete with male players in the same scene equally.”

This collaboration will certainly present an interesting spectacle for MLBB esports fans, especially those who have also been following the WSL scene. Female players in Indonesia have been turning heads with their killer gameplay, like the Bigetron Era squad, snagging titles in both Indonesian and SEA competitions in 2023.
