Exclusive: Geek Fam’s Baloyskie Acknowledges Drastic Changes in the MPL ID

The twists and turns of MLBB Pro League Indonesia Season 13 have fans on the edge of their seats, especially those neutrals eagerly anticipating surprises from underestimated underdog teams. With a wave of Filipino imports dominating the transfer market, every squad is upping their game to deliver peak performance.

As we hit the midpoint of the regular season, the once-mighty squads are no longer the fearsome foes they once were. Giants of the MPL ID scene like Evos Glory and RRQ Hoshi find themselves battling to avoid the dreaded relegation. Meanwhile, last year’s international representatives, Onic Esports and Geek Fam, despite maintaining their positions in the top four of the current standings, are showing signs of inconsistency.

Onic Esports started strong in the opening weeks but stumbled unexpectedly in the third, while Geek Fam took some time to find their rhythm, only hitting their stride after the second week. Geek Fam’s captain, Allen “Baloyskie” Baloy, acknowledges that rival teams have adapted faster to the evolving meta compared to previous seasons.

Coming off their triumph against Dewa United in week 3 this past weekend, he revealed that his team encountered hurdles during the opening week owing to internal adjustments within the squad, particularly involving the jungler and coaching staff. Nonetheless, he perceives a notable surge in the performance of their competitors, attributing it to their rapid adaptation to the latest meta.

“The current meta shift has certainly impacted our early game strategies. Couple that with personnel changes, and it’s been a challenging start,” he said. “But I think other teams have been adapting and improving their gameplay better than they did in last season.”

Baloy also noticed that his Filipino teammates who transitioned to MPL ID this season haven’t hit their stride yet compared to their performance back home. Nonetheless, he remains optimistic, believing it’s just a matter of time before they find their groove in the new competitive landscape.

“I’m so glad to see that many Filipino players joining us this season. Well, adapting to a new environment is never easy, I know how it feels. But I’m confident they’ll find their footing soon,” he remarked.

As we gear up for the fourth week, Geek Fam maintains their third-place standing, a testament to their resilience amid fluctuating fortunes. With matches against Aura Fire and RRQ Hoshi looming, Baloy and his squad are determined to cement their playoff berth before the league’s holiday hiatus.
