Adhim Hilmi, the head coach and stand-in player for the Morph GPX PUBGM squad, has recently discussed his team’s preparation for the first PUBG Mobile Super League SEA competition in Malaysia next month. He believes that the teams which he will be facing against in PMSL SEA would employ methods that differ from those used in online tournaments.
To Ulti Asia, Adhim said that he has been following the progress of the Southeast Asian teams who have inspired him to pursue a career in the PUBGM professional competition. And he is being cautious of several teams which, according to him, utilize a similar drop zone control similar to Morph GPX.
“Actually, I have no specific training method to deal with SEA teams for the upcoming PMSL,” Adhim explained. “However, I’ve been watching games of big SEA teams like Vampires and Team Secret for so long. They have drop zone controls, similar to our team, like in Minas (Miramar) and Sonovska Military Base (Erangel). If you see it, they rarely used their drop zone tactics in online competition. However, in major tournaments such as the previous PMSL and PMGC, they frequently employed that tactics to dominate the game. We have to think of alternatives against similar tactics.”
Apart from focusing on map awareness and drop rates, Adhim said that he had encouraged his players to use tactical split formations and strategic zones control. He believes this is the strength of the Morph GPX team this season, especially through the role of their two aces, Rusli “Boboho” Jaya and Muhammad “Rocky” Ilham, who have won in Indonesian competitions and experienced international competitions.
“Compared to previous season, I put more emphasis on split and strategic zone control in this team rather than just playing aggressively at the start,” Adhim explained. “To be honest, I think Boboho and Rocky played very well, and they have an extraordinary teamwork even though this is their first season together as a team. With their past season expertise, I believe Morph GPX has a potential to surprise everyone in PMSL SEA.”
Adhim then revealed that his squad had also planned a fresh schedule for next week’s scrim with professional PUBGM teams from outside Indonesia to ensure their readiness. However, Adhim believes that this time around the toughest competition in PMSL SEA would not be Vietnam, Malaysia, or Thailand, but their Indonesian competitors.
“We will participate in a scrim with teams from outside Indonesia in the first week of July to assess the team’s readiness. But honestly, after watching the success of PUBGM teams and players, I am now more cautious of the PMPL ID teams,” he stated.
“If we take a closer look, Indonesia have been dominating SEA in the last few months. At SEA Games in Cambodia, the champions and top five teams were Indonesians. There is also Alter Ego, who failed to win the ID league but eventually won their first major SEA tournament. And this season, there are Boom Esports and Persijavos, which fields international winners like Zuxxy, Luxxy, and Microboy. With respect to other teams, I think Indonesian PUBGM have progressed significantly in comparison to others in SEA.”
Morph GPX will be Indonesia’s fourth participant in the PMSL SEA Fall 2023 tournament, which will take place on August 2, 2023 in Malaysia. Along with Morph GPX, there will be Boom Esports, Persijavos, RRQ, Bigetron RV, and Alter Ego, the winner of PMSL SEA Spring 2023, competing for tickets to the PUBG Mobile Global Championship 2023 in Turkey later this year and an invitation to the Riyadh Masters 2024.
